The Energy Imprint
We are all made of energy, which is never lost, broken, or eliminated. It can only change form. We all leave an imprint in this world, no matter where we go. Never feel as if you're insignificant or that you don't make a difference. Your imprint is not dependent on whether people remember you or not, what you did or didn't do, or how big of a voice you had in matters at hand. You LIVE. You ARE. Therefore you are continuously sparking off energy, which settles in your wake…unnamed, but felt on many levels.
No matter how much you try to shrink back or think so little of yourself, your imprint cannot be hidden. It is a beautiful and unique strand to the collective of all souls in the web of life. It is eternal.
As you go about your day, think of what sort of energy you choose to put forth. Do you want to leave behind one of love and kindness, or one of anger and destruction? Remember, your energy will be felt by someone in some way without them even realizing it came from you.
An example of this is the energy a house carries from all the people who have lived in it. Or a stretch of land that has seen much activity from all those who have dwelt upon it, traveled through it, or experienced an event while present on it.
True story: The house next door to my parents is one of these such places. It has never known happiness. The first family to live in it was filled with anger, betrayal, loneliness, and sadness. Ultimately, the family was torn apart, and the one left behind holding all the baggage experienced a full emotional and mental breakdown. The house, meant to be a wonderful new beginning the minute the developer broke ground and the walls started to go up, was left with a negative imprint from unresolved emotions.
The next family to buy the house and move in fell victim to sadness, depression, and financial struggle. They were gone within mere months. Once again, the house was put up for sale. The pretty yard began to fill with weeds.
The house sold for a third time and the family who bought it and moved in was full of rage, violence, and destruction. Before long, the “For Sale” sign was placed in the front yard once again, much to the relief of neighbors who were beginning to be affected by the chaos coming from that property.
The house sold for a fourth time. The new family brought in the energy of anger and fighting. After around a year, they were struck by a tragic death. Their young son, a friend of my own son, was killed right across the street in a freak accident. Sadness replaced the anger, and the family spiraled into a depression they could not come out of. They held on to the house for as long as they could, but eventually they had to let it go.
Then the house sat empty for a long time. Weeds grew up around the fifth “For Sale” sign the property had driven into its front yard. The grass died and was replaced by dirt and rocks as the desert started to reclaim its natural state. The house that had never known happiness sat like an empty shell, waiting to be filled again by all it had ever known.
No one wanted the house, however. Did prospective buyers feel the energy and didn’t resonate with it? Did the enegy fill them with a feeling they couldn’t pinpoint? Did they feel better the second they were back on the street and driving away? We’ll never know.
I was outside my parents’ house one day when yet another realtor brought clients to see the house. The clients were two middle aged women. As soon as they walked out of the house, the taller of the two women turned to the real estate agent and snapped, “Why did you bring us to this house?”
The agent stammered, looked at the papers in her hands, and said something I could not hear. The woman frowned at her and snapped again, “Yes, I understand all that. But WHY did you bring us to THIS house?”
Normally, that would not be enough for context to get a full understanding of what was going on. But intuitively, I knew exactly why the client was upset. The energy of the house had spoken out loud and clear and the woman felt it without understanding why she felt the way she did.
The house finally sold the fifth time, just when everyone was convinced it was going to become an abandoned property. At first, the new homeowner seemed pleasant to others in the neighborhood, and the neighbors were thrilled with this shift. Maybe there would finally be peace on the street from this new occupant. There was a calm when it had sat empty, but it also carried unease with it as if everyone was waiting for the other shoe to drop. This homeowner lived on her own, had no children, and was quiet. Perhaps the house would finally receive the energy it deserved to have.
Within a short time, however, something changed. It came on so gradually, that no one saw it sneaking up, though it should have been expected. Little by little, the shift started. The new neighbor first become filled with fear. Fear over people parking on the street close to her house. Fear of people coming to her door. Fear over…well, just about anything. Then slowly came the paranoia. It progressed to the point that she has since become a shut in. When she does go outside, lashes out at neighbors for reasons that only seems to make sense to her. She has been the longest homeowner the house has ever had.
None of the families following the original owners ever stood a chance because they didn’t understand what they were having to fight against. The energy that stayed there continued to keep on giving the gift of the imprint from the first people.
Remember, energy doesn't die, but it can change form into something more positive. Clearing or cleansing the house (such as saging or smudging) would have been highly beneficial. All it would have taken is one person to come in and refuse to play into the imprint’s law of attraction. Someone who could understand what was going on and make the decision that it was time to shift the energy field and create a more joyful imprint.
So, let’s talk about examples of a positive energy imprint. Think about times when you were somewhere doing your normal daily routine and suddenly you just felt so darn good! You had no idea where it came from, but suddenly you were filled with inspiration, hope, and motivation. Or you suddenly felt really happy as if everything was going to be perfectly fine!
Chances are you just walked into the wave of energy someone really positive had just left behind. Lucky you! Places such as churches, plant nurseries, gardens, community centers, and anywhere were people gather to help others or places where they find a moment of peace can be imprinted with this sort of energy. The energy that just makes you feel so darn good the moment you arrive…and lingers with you long after you leave.
I always experience this in the garden departments of stores or plant nurseries. Years ago—while living in Hemet, California—I was in a foul mood one day. Rob and I were on our way to Lowes when I told him that while he was looking for something to block a hole under our fence—caused by a neighbor’s dog—I would be in the garden section grounding myself among the plants. I promised him that I would be a different person after. Yeah, I wasn’t exactly the ideal passenger in the car with my grumpy, negative attitude. Sure enough, walking among the plants, having butterflies fluttering around me, and watching a couple of rogue squirrels dart around underneath the tables holding all the pretty flowers put me in a wonderful mood by the time I left. Just what the doctor ordered! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I was a recipient of all the peace I felt emitting from the other customers as they, too, enjoyed shopping for plants and found joy in the many butterflies.
See how powerful we really are? And here you thought you weren't making much of a difference. Oh, my dears, your imprint is universal. It is eternal. And don't you forget it! Make your imprint one that brings smiles for miles.
